THE WISDOM OF GOD
Ps. 8:3-4
“When I
consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which
you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him . . .?”
Isn't the universe a wonderful place?
Have you noticed how well everything seems to work together? Stars and
planets and asteroids and moons are all moving at tremendous speeds, and yet
things rarely collide. The interactions of things on our own little
planet are amazingly complex and yet, in spite of what the doomsayers tell us
every day, everything works together. Even our own bodies are an amazing
bit of engineering--we have all kinds of different parts that do different
kinds of things and yet they all come together to produce "us."
We can see from the things that God has made that He is a God of order.
Of course we have to remember that the universe doesn't operate on its own
accord. It was designed by its Creator to do certain things and to not do
certain things. Planets and stars can’t speed up or slow down or stop
just because they feel like it. They have no ability to decide to go this
way rather than that way. They have no will of their own, and therefore
can't be disobedient to the plan and purpose of God.
But how about people? We too were created to do certain things and to not
do certain things. The difference is that we sometimes fail to do the very
things for which we were created. And, of course, we sometimes get
involved in things that were not part of God’s design. Unlike asteroids
and stars, we obviously need to learn obedience. That too is part
of God’s orderly plan. He sent his Holy Spirit, His infallible Word and
His Son to be our teachers. It is from them that we learn what to do and
what to avoid. Truly, His Word is a “lamp to our feet and a light to
our path.” The good news is that when we do things God’s way, His
blessing naturally follows. That, after all, is how He designed the
universe to work!
